I would never have predicted that IC would be getting more votes than Emily. What a surprise. I think the thing about In California for me is that I don't enjoy the musical accompaniment. I think it suits the song, but it's just not the kind of thing I want to listen to most of the time. It's sort of tense in a way, and I know that's the point, but if I'm having a casual listen to HOOM and I hear the opening harp twangs I'll tend to skip it.

Don't want to miss my own deadline, so my votes are -

Pairing 01: Go Long
Pairing 02: In California
Pairing 03: Only Skin

It is becoming exceptionally difficult, and the pairings force me to question my preconceptions. I listen again, I think I will select whatever is in my ears at any given moment, and I finally type my favoured choices and immediately feel guilty for voting against three other favourites.

This is becoming difficult. I feel really weird about voting for Cosmia over Only Skin, but that choice was actually the easiest for me, somehow.

I just changed my vote for 2.

Can I ask everyone a quick question? Even though we've been meticulous to make sure that pairings and seedings are even and fair...

How would you vote in either of these cases: A) Go Long vs. Have One On Me or B) In California vs. Have One On Me ??

I go the exact opposite, both Go Long and In California over Have One On Me. Also as for what sara says; I found that the hardest choice we've had in the tournament so far. I think Cosmia is a better song than Only Skin in a lot of ways, but Only Skin is so sprawling and beautiful... if it doesn't win the whole tournament I'll be flabberghasted.

This question needs to be asked: How do you feel about Milk-Eyed Mender?

MEM is my favorite album and its lack of representation in these final rounds is really disappointing for me. I know many people who didn't start to like her music until Ys came out, and I wonder if this is influencing the results at all - the fact that so many people dislike MEM outright. Obviously any form of majority-rule voting is going to reflect these things, but I'm curious to see how people feel about MEM in general - like it, love it, or hate it?

To put it another way, which is your favorite album?

Ys wins out any time, in any way. I'd like to be more complex but all I have to do is start Sawdust and Diamonds and I'm enraptured. Go Long is my favorite HOOM, but ... there's no way it comes close to being what Sawdust and Diamonds is for me. HOOM is an album, but Ys is something different. It's jut so... perfect. Cosmia is my least favorite track on Ys. Comparing the rest is going to be hard as hell because they are all my favorite. That's where I'm going to have some serious issues.

I'm surprised so many people vote for HOOM songs over Ys. They're really wonderful, but in a HOOM sort of way. Which to me just doesn't match the absolutely neverendingly stunning work of art that Ys is.

I really don't think it's likely that anyone here, on the Joanna Newsom fan forum, is particularly likely to be influenced by negative reviews of her first album. We're all madly in love with her.
