Joanna Newsom on groupies, her band, and 'Have one on me'

When she picked the songs on the 90-minute show - a quarter from “Mender,” a quarter from “Ys” and the rest from her new album, “Have one on me” – she did it with her groupies in mind.

“I want to make sure they hear as many songs as possible,” she said. “I believe every song gets played at some point during the tour.”

Does anyone read Hipster Runoff? Most of the time it cracks me up, but they generally don't treat Joanna too well. I think it's mostly tongue-in-cheek, because anything that isn't chillwave and/or doesn't get played over the speakers at Am Appy gets panned over there.

Yeah, the review comparing her to Kanye was pretty freaking bad, and not even because of that. :err:

I dunno what she did at the show, but at the 3 shows I saw, "Peach, Plum, Pear" was nothing like it was on the album.

Does this person even listen to her?

I remember seeing Joanna at the Sasquatch Festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre ( in George , Washington ) in May 2005 . She was performing on the middle stage while across the way Kanye West was performing on the main stage at the same time . A couple of times---in between her songs---she would stop and listen to his music ( which came drifting over--not so faintly ) , pumping her fist chanting " KAN-YE ! KAN-YE ! "
