I didn't find this on the net, but I am not sure where else to post it. I realize this is not very helpful at all, but news so far has been spare.

I have heard a studio version of one of the new songs! It's not any of the onesthat have been played live. I wish there was a way for me to share it with just you guys, but I would hate to leak any of her songs.

As for the song itself: it is fucking amazing! I love it at least as much as 'Look and Despair'. Imagine a sort of Randy Newman feel with a bit of americana/ragtime influence. The song features both harp and piano at the same time! So far, I have been totally unable to keep from just listening to it all the time, every day, and I haven't gotten sick of it yet. I have also heard from the same source that the album should be out within ~5 months (but god only knows how accurate that is, I wouldn't bet on it).

I'm sorry I can't give you anything else, but at least you can know that songs are being recorded, and that they are fucking wonderful. I'm excited for all of you to get to listen to it for the first time^^

What's its length? Does it have instrumental arrangements other than piano and harp?

Five months! I thought it was about to come out already…

A bit more about the song:
The piano here is perhaps the most intricate she's recorded yet--some of these riffs will make your toes curl, they are just so wonderful.
I am not sure what the song is about (I'm a bit dumb at lyrics) but it has a sort if Americana feel to it's phrasing and imagery (something I've noticed in the live songs as well!)

I'm sorry again I can't share this with you all--if only these were the early days of the internet!

This is great! I'm happy waiting to be honest. I was initially not going to listen to any of her new songs before the album came out (that didn't happen) but I know I definitely would not want to hear the studio version of one before I can have it all in front of me. It's making me slightly more impatient for the album though!! I remember thinking she could never top or even make something close to the depth and genius of Have One On Me, but hoping of course she would. And this is sounding very promising :>

Thanks for sharing the news and not the leak LawnsOfDawns. This is very respectful, I second that! Frustration is not that bad really, is it? I feel so grateful to Kate Bush who taught me how waiting could be payful. In France, we have a quote saying 'Patience is the mother of all virtues". I think I begin to understand and accept it, allthough I'm naturally very unpatient... I guess I can wait some more for Joanna's new album as long as it"s as good as what you described... I didn't really like the live versions of those new songs, but I felt the same with the songs of "HOOM", and it's probably my favourite album of hers...

I'm excited but gotta say about the new stuff - I love The Diver's Wife but haven't really enjoyed any of the other upbeat, honky-tonk style tunes we've heard debuted. I'm a bit nervous that I'm not gonna like the upcoming material as much. Hoping to be surprised though.

I actually support your decision to not leak it, if this is indeed true (I'm a little dubious, hehe). I'd like Joanna to release completed singles for the album on her own terms. It made a lot of sense last time to have 81, Good Intentions Paving Company, and Kingfisher as singles prior to the HOOM release.

Is there any other information you could provide as to how you came in contact with this recording? Was it through a friend or the studio? Also, if you are in contact with the recording, do you have any idea of album's current progress? Whatever you feel comfortable divulging would be great.

I'm counting on this 5 month thing. Not that this is anything but pure speculation, but I'm convinced Newsom decided she wanted a summer release as she's already covered all the other seasons with her first three albums.
