I think Joanna made such an enormous leap from MEM to Ys and then to HOOM that I find when I listen back to the MEM tracks they seem sweet but relatively simple and light compared to what I know comes later. I still enjoy listening to MEM, particularly Swansea and Clam, Crab; but when voting for my favourite of J's tracks it just makes sense to vote for the ones that make me feel and think the most, that I find the most impressive and amazing, and those are always going to be the more expansive, more beautiful, more complex later tracks.

And for the record, I think the outro to Baby Birch sucks. It's the only flaw in the track. I hate the way it fades out, I find it so lazy and irritating. How hard is it to write the music so it actually just stops? She does it in every other song.

@Steve, I agree with you that the end of Baby Birch is really beautiful (aside from the fact that it fades out). Maybe I'm over-reaching, but the fact that it is the only of her recorded songs that fades out makes me wonder whether there is a conceptual reason she chose to do it. Obviously she could easily come up with a solid ending if she wanted to. Maybe it relates to the haunting nature of baby birch who is never really gone in spite of the narrater's plea for her to "be at peace and be gone."
