THIS IS NOT MY TUNE / Bad Music

non-JN music discussions

Postby sadie on 12 Feb 2012, 11:52

I find it really interesting to see how people can make such awful music nowadays.

Here's some of the worst I've heard recently:

Would love to hear more!

Isn't it pretty pointless to talk about music someone considers to be "bad music"?
Tastes differ and beauty's in the eye of the of the beholder. Bands like Die Antwoord do have a lot of fans, so there must be something appealing about their music.
I wouldn't call music bad just because I don't like it. I mean, we're not here because we want to vaunt ourselves because our taste in music is soooo good and other people's taste is not, because they are not listening to Joanna Newsom or Kate Bush or PJ Harvey etc.

Those are all better than anything in the top 10. At least they're weird and kinda goofy. Camp appreciation is possible for those. No sort of appreciation at all is possible for music that's just plain bland and impossible to notice.

Yeah I'd probably rank them all slightly above Katy Perry's entire discography

Bad screamo is the worst music in the world.

Points taken.

I didn't think there'd be much of a problem if there was a thread to share music I thought was 'bad' (twas late at night and I have a cold so every derogatory adjective got lost in the wind). I think most of the bands in the top ten have far more to offer musically (crazy outfits aside - but aren't those pretty rampant in the top ten?) than what I (and Andrew and rainbowdash, thanks) listed. Die Antwoord was a poor choice, I know understand. I made my decision based on only hearing '"I fink(/think) you freaky and I like you a lot" with what sounds like the backing track of 'Move Shake Drop' playing behind it. The rest of the songs, though, are awful. That's just my opinion, Ceres. They may have fan followings, but this doesn't prevent me from expressing it, and I'm not a music snob.

I'm a huge fan of Die Antwoord though.

And I think this thread should be re-titled as "comically bad" or something similar.
Here's another

(the first time i saw it it was uploaded as "respect and obey authority .jpg")

To be fair, that was actually very innovative when Goebbels directed it.

Joseph Goebbels was Reich Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda in the Third Reich. He was one of the most loathesome of the lot and he invented public relations, or at least gave Edward Bernays the idea. (His job was to tell people to respect and obey authority.)

There would be no room for the ideas in a shorter song!

Goebbels according to Disney

Nazi propaganda is really fascinating stuff.

I'm tempted to record a cover of Only Skin where I just repeat the phrase "Come on, respect authority!" over and over. It would be X-tReMe!

I didn't look at any of the videos "recommended" here, but I wonder whether any of them come close to the unintentionally hilarious (or sad) tale of The Shaggs and their amazing first album.

Clearly it was awful (in the sense that it failed hopelessly to do what the girls and their manager/father wanted - but no lesser authority than Frank Zappa listed it as one of his favourites, and there IS something strangely wonderful about it!
