No one seems to have posted on here for a while so I thought as I'm a newbie I should introduce myself. My name is Max and I was watching the television several years ago and an advert for Orange mobile service came on (that might just be a UK brand, not sure) and the ad was this New York blackout or something and there was this beguiling voice singing through my speakers, like nothing I had ever heard and I knew within one minute that this was the start of a lifelong love affair. And lo and behold it was Joanna Newsom with This Side of the Blue. I bought Milk Eyed Mender straight away and have probably never been the quite the same since (sorry for the melodrama). My favourite songs from Milk-Eyed Mender are Inflammatory Writ and Sadie. From Y's - Only Skin and from Have One on Me - Go Long (for now).
I am 25, studying Physics and Astronomy at Royal Holloway University in Surrey. I have played the guitar for 10 years and am now rather tentatively trying to learn the cello.
I have made a few posts on here so far (nothing very interesting) and have found everyone to be super nice. So thanks for having me and I hope I have found my online home away from home.
I'm actually from Dundee in Scotland, I just study at Cambridge. And not at the moment since I've been on hiatus for a year... Just didn't update my location.
However speaking of coincidence I knew you must be at Royal Holloway from those photos you put up in the other thread. It's got such a beautiful campus, I've visited friends there a few times. Welcome to the fold.
Welcome, Max. I visited Royal Holloway this summer and have applied to study Physics there too. It's not my first choice but I did love the campus. (You must get that a lot, sorry, haha.)
It is a very lovely campus, I think, if I'm honest, that's what grabbed me in the first place (I know we should make big decisions on better things than that).
Where is your first choice Adam? Will you just be taking straight physics or will you be combining?
Out of offers I've received so far (Loughborough and York), York is my first choice, but I'm yet to receive offers or rejections from the other three (Nottingham, Royal Holloway, and Birmingham). I have an interview at Nottingham coming up, but I really haven't decided yet. My plan is to put Holloway as insurance. I'm applying for straight physics or physics with a language where it's available.
Cool, York is a beautiful city and a pretty fun town as well. But I reckon you'd love it here too! If you have any questions about the place don't hesitate to ask.

Unfortunately not, you have to apply really early to get a place staying there as it's pretty competitive. We have about 8000 students and there are about 400 rooms there I think. Thinking I might try for next year. What's your friend studying?
