A work can have value as an example of how certain processes can be applied to create a song, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be pleasing to the ear. I can think of many works of art--paintings, drawings, sculpture, etc.--that display the technical or creative prowess of the artist, and yet are just not that interesting to look at.

agreed, just giving respect and props to the artist - his art may not resonate with all, but you know the saying about beauty in the eye of the beholder...

I think that cover is actually pretty darn beautiful. Covers generally are always a good introduction to an artist, simply because knowing the song and knowing the lyrics prior to listening always leaves you focusing on what is particularly unique about them.
