RIGHT-ON / Bill Callahan Interview

the talking of the tadpoles

Postby Mark E. Thompson on 25 Nov 2011, 11:19

Hey guys - so, as I mentioned a month or two ago I'm interviewing Bill Callahan... tomorrow.

I was just wondering if anyone had any questions they would like posing - as this would seem like a pretty good time to ask them.

Let me know and I'll see if I have room for you!

P.s - part iv of the Joanna intvw is enroute. It's just been a crazy week.

Mark

It is hard not to ask obvious Joanna related questions:

Bill please tell us that Joanna is some soul sucking harpie shrew that was stealing your freedom and emasculating you to death, so we can wrap our minds around how you let the most wonderful girl in the world slip through your fingers?

sigh...guess love between two people is a little more complicated than that...

The thing i like best about deciphering Joanna's songs...i'm always wrong.

Are there any songs from his back-catalog that he looks back at and feels embarrassed by?

What significance do rivers hold for him? They're one of the most pervasive images in his recent work. Do they symbolize one specific thing to him or are they (pardon the pun) more fluid in meaning? For example, is the river in "From the Rivers to the Oceans" the same river as the one in "Rock Bottom Riser"?

Was he actually happy with how the production of "Woke on a Whaleheart" turned out? He's self-produced everything since, so I'm thinking probably not. I hope not because IMO the production on that album pretty much blows.
