I just don't get it. Why did they make a video for GIPC about one and a half year after album release? And why did it take so long?

Well it's still promotion, isn't it? Regardless of the fact that it'll be out way over a year after HOOM. I think she's being very clever about it, as she always is. Although it hasn't coincided with the album release, people will be talking about it once it does finally surface. How amazeballs will it be to have a 7 minute music video? You don't get too many of them. That's gonna cause a stir. It would be naive to think that Joanna hasn't got a strategy to all this madness.

Okay, so here is my theory that I thought of the other day.

-There is no way that there isn't a video, because why the hell else would they have those photos?
-There is no way it is taking this long to finish the video itself
-Have One On Me is a triple-length album that is inaccessible due to length and price
-GIPC is by far her most accessible song
-Drag City is not the most lucrative label, and from what I understand JN is their money-maker
-Music videos are often a good way to get a single playtime and increase awareness about an artist

I can imagine someone who maybe isn't going to enjoy a song like "kingfisher", etc. listening to GIPC or seeing the video, but then checking out the album and deciding, you know, fuck that this shit is way too long.

The only thing that makes any sense at all is that Drag City is waiting on something that is going to be released concurrently with the video. Whatever that thing is, it is most likely a more digestible and accessible way for people to listen to GIPC.

So I figure logically, the reason we are waiting so long for the video is that another release is coming! Perhaps just a single or an EP, but it has been over a year since the record came out, there is no other reason for them to be waiting this long, and even "good" record labels such as Drag City like to make money.

Perhaps it's wishful thinking, but we can hope goddamnit!

Her Dragcity page now has "music videos" at the top right of the screen, where the touring schedule used to be. There's also now a button for "View all videos." Still nothing but Sprout and the Bean, but looks like they're gearing up to post the new one soon!

I think the obvious answer is that the video will be released alongside a LIVE album from the last tour.

It was such an amazing tour, wasn't it ? With new versions of old songs, incredible improvs, and everything was so tight ! Including the best vocally I've ever seen Joanna.

It would be a shame not to release a full-length live album. And it would make sense to release the video maybe around that time. They're probably mixing and mastering the live recordings !! !! !

Hehe this is kind of my fantasy but it does make sense !

I'd like to think that kristopherkelly is correct. Especially as some of the live versions were quite different to the album versions. The other possibility would be a "greatest hits" type package ... but I just can't see that after 3 albums and a few EPs and singles.

But here's a question to muse on. If Joanna did release a "greatest hits" album at this stage in her career, what do you think it should be entitled? Answers on a postcard, or better still, in MilkyMoon.
