Reading Let's Plays of games rather than actually playing them ftw.
It does seem like a great game, but I know what happens now and having to emulate a four disc game sounds nightmarish.

Final Fantasy IX is my favourite game of all time I've finished it like 4 times, and it's not hard to emulate I've done it myself. Please play it so we can talk about itttt

I can talk about it as is! I just read through someone playing it in great detail. More completely than I would have, too.
I cried intermittently for like four hours this morning reading the end of the game.
I might play it when it's less fresh in my mind, because it does look really great.

I replayed through the whole game this last summer with my brother for the first time in about 5 years, and the ending made me cry so much. When Zidane is crushed and they're having the celebrations at Alexandria and he appears and Dagger asks how he got there and he says something like 'Because I had to be here', my brother was like 'What a cop-out ending' but I was just saying... no, you can do this in videogames, it's something that you always hope, that there's a 'must' involved in love, that when the time comes love will just work because it has to, it's not true of course but I think everyone has a part of them that hopes it will, and I found it really powerful.

Yeah, I looked like a spinster at a wedding during that in-game movie. In a good way. Like a little jealous and bittersweet, but happy for the couple. I may have sobbed a little bit.

There's just so many moments on disc 4 especially that made the tears well up.

Like when they're on Terra and Zidane's been talking to Garland and he has his identity crisis and then everyone shows up to encourage him and that song I just linked plays... Such a beautiful, hopeful song; I went out for a smoke just after listening to it and I was choking back tears because the world just seemed so beautiful and hopeful.

And in the black mage village, when Vivi's talking to the black mages at the graveyard and he asks them about why they've buried their dead friend and one of them says something like, "He's going to come out again one day, right? When he does, I'm going to wash him off in the pond." Heartbreaking!
