Drag City put up a track from the new album on their website. It's called "Baby's Breath": http://www.dragcity.com/system/tracks/d ... Breath.mp3

It's a different sound than the last album, but definitely intriguing. I can't wait to hear the rest!

It's leaked and it's incredible!

The Callahan of old is back with his humor. Upon just a few listens I'm enjoying it so much than Sometimes... already.

Ahh! Glad to hear it's good! I'm old-fashioned so I'll wait until it's actually out to listen, but I'm really pumped. "Baby's Breath" definitely sounds more like classic Smog than the last few albums (not that I don't love the recent stuff).

Do you think it's a Baby Birch parallel?

I never thought I would say this about a Bill Callahan song...but I sorta like it.

It's clearly the Baby Birch story.... I've been listening non stop to this song.

Gah! So I head down to my local record shop today to pick up Apocalypse and the guy tells me it is not out till next week! :( The Drag City web site says it is out April 5. Is this just in the US or is the April 5 date just for pre-orders?

Anyway, I went ahead and bought A River Ain't Too Much to Love to tied me over. I've only heard a few songs from it so it is new to me. :)

I think I read that it's out today for internet orders, but won't be in record stores until the 19th.

I got it! Haven't listened yet, but I checked out the liner notes and learned that Neal Morgan played drums on the album!

You are lucky, Claire! I should have pre-ordered it. Oh well. I'm loving A River Ain't Too Much To Love.

That's cool that Neal Morgan is on drums. He is such a wonderful percussionist. He really stands out and adds such thoughtful accents and textures to Joanna's songs. Now I can't wait to hear it even more!

His drumming on here is definitely different from his work with Joanna, but of course it's very good.

I'm liking the album a lot so far, though I'm not wild about the song "Riding for the Feeling." Things turn surprisingly "jazzy" and light on the second half of the album which is pretty unusual for Bill Callahan. I'd say the best songs are "Baby's Breath," "America!" and "One Fine Morning."

Neal played with Bill here in November '09.

The really important question to ask about this is...did he wear shoes when he played with Bill?

I'm really obsessed with "Drover" at the moment. I might see him perform in June! I heard he's really good live.

My mother wouldn't take me! It was in Orlando, so about a 2 hour drive. My mother wasn't having it. I am assuming not, though. Neal hates shoes. Also, unrelated, I am working on a cover of 'I want so many things now'.

He is definitely worth seeing live! I've seen him three times, and it's always been great. It's definitely best to see him in a small club, though. The first time I saw him it was a lunchtime concert at a huge outdoor pavilion and it was kind of a weird vibe.

I wonder if Neal will tour with him?

When I saw Neal, he said he was finishing up on his new album (he played it in full). Hopefully it'll be out soon.
