non-JN music discussions

hi Claire :)

since my last post I gave "Apocalypse" another try and I have to say that I change my mind about this album.drover, baby's breath and one fine morning are fantastic tracks. I am less keen about the other tracks but I like their own specificity.concerning his lyrics about dream river , as english is not my native language, I am not able to judge the quality and the subtlety of it.musically I like the whole record.

I feel really dumb, please help me out. Why is he referred to as low-fi? To me the albums are recorded clean, crisp, you can hear the little details, which I love. How is that low-fi?

low fi ? but who said low fi. I didn't say low-fi. I think it's another lazy ellipsis from a journalist

His early albums are extremely low-fi (listen to something like "I Want to Tell You About a Man" for example) so I think probably people can't break the habit of referring to him that way. The Smog albums from the '90s sound, if not homemade, then certainly not slick, but everything from Supper on is pretty crisp; especially the post-Smog ones.

Thank you so much Claire. I guess I really don't have any of his really old stuff.
