I've only heard Cosmogony from a live recording I recently downloaded and it is actually the only song of the new ones that has brought tears to my eyes.
i probably be the worst bjork fan ever but i hate this song, the medulla like motuh bass, the melodic line which look like religious modern song, it's so first degree
Go ahead and give me a listen and tell me what you think! I like a lot of the songs... but it's a more difficult album and may take a few more listens.
i'mmmm ssoooo fan of the...fan remixes i love ridu's mixes, biophilia is so annoying, but i'm waiting for the deluxe manual, haha i'm a jerk, buy something just cos of bjork...then i make my critique
oh my! i could buy björk's house two years ago for almost one million dollars! and it's really her house i saw some pics on the web of her family in there! i like this sort of stalker information, even if i'll die to see her brooklyn retreat... http://realestalker.blogspot.com/2009/0 ... edens.html
I love the idea of Biophilia. I love the idea of a more acoustic sounding Björk album, I love how each song serves a different purpose, with a musical element and scientific process associated with each, I love that she uses apps and compositions to bring these out, and I ADORE the lyrical images and themes and subjects, even if they're written with 'Björk grammar'. I just don't really think the actual songs are all that great.
Really, it's the kind of album I would generally obsess over, but a lot of the songs generally aren't particularly deep, interesting, or even simply catchy enough to do that. Her vocal melodies are often really impossible to follow and the instrumentation is crazy sparse and repetitive. This makes me HATE the fact that I don't own an iPad, because I see how its probably a better soundtrack than an album, and, looking at videos, it's clear that the sparseness and repetition of the instrumentation is kind of essential to Biophilia's interactivity.
I still love the concept enough that I'm giving it a lot of listens, and I do like some of the songs, even if I know that they're flawed. I think the lyrical imagery and general poetic themes of Biophilia helps a lot here. Mutual Core (which is great out of the album's context), Crystalline, Virus, Sacrifice, Cosmogony, and even Dark Matter (the song about dark matter has no lyrics! of course! the song is about what is not said) all stand out to me. Thunderbolt's Tesla bass is also pretty cool (pretty coil?).

I think her music is some of the most fascinating music of our time. Biophilia is a great example of this, but you must appreciate the entire project in order to enjoy the album. The songs on Biophilia are not her best, but in a way they may be her most ambitious. She created new instruments for the album and live performances. Solstice includes 7/4 and 6/4 time bars, Hollow; Crystalline; and Moon have 17/8 bars, and these are not the only songs without conventional time signatures. Her stuff is incredibly original and I don't find it shallow at all. Listen to Wanderlust and Pagan Poetry if you haven't already. Some of her songs are quite difficult to listen to at first but when you understand what she's saying they really become amazing. She did not write Biophilia from a personal point of view and this may come across as shallow.
Why don't you find the songs on Biophilia interesting?
