Well I doubt many of you are Mars Volta fans (I know a couple are) but they're probably my favourite 'band' (i.e. a group that's commonly recognised as a band and consistently has more than one songwriter) ever and Noctourniquet leaked a little while ago. I probably won't start a new thread buuuut...

I'm reeaaaally excited about it. It doesn't really touch the highs of Deloused, Frances or Amputechture, but it's soooo good to hear after Octahedron. It feels like a return to Deloused in a lot of ways, and their new sound is really interesting, I've heard bitching over the synths but I think they work really well. I haven't given it my full attention yet, so I'll be doing that soon, but eeee I'm feeling like it's an AOTY so far, move over Anais Mitchell. They're not washed up yet :smirk: <3

Standout tracks:
-The Whip Hand
-Dyslexicon
-Empty Vessels Make the Loudest Sound
-The Malkin Jewel
-Zed and Two Naughts

I'm one of them!

I personally didn't listen to the leak yet since I want to listen to it as a whole when it will officially and physically be released (I've only listened to Malkin Jewel so far, which sounds extremely interesting to me).

One thing I really can't understand is all that Octahedron hating among their fans: to me that's the first perfect Volta record since De-loused and Frances.
Amputechture was very good while I think that Bedlam was way too much, and with Octa they demonstrated that they really didn't need all that noise and over-layering to create a great record.

Anyway, I must admit I like At The Drive-In a lot more..

But I guess I still owe them a lot since I found out about Joanna after reading a thread about her on their forum

Metric, CocoRosie, and Rilo Kiley are pretty much my favorite bands ever. I like listening to others, but I've never listened to the extent with which I've listened to those. Honorable mentions include Stars (2 albums), The Shins (1 album), Frou Frou (only because they disbanded), Arcade Fire (1 album), The Dresden Dolls (haven't listened to much yet)... I'm sure there are more but I'm not on my computer so I can't check my iTunes.

I understand why you feel that way about Octahedon, it is pretty cohesive. I definitely appreciate it when I'm in the mood, I didn't mean to come across as though I hated the thing, even if I think it's stiflingly lifeless at times and the better tracks feel like rehashes.

Noctourniquet is a good album, one of their tightest so far.

My favourite bands:

Vampire Weekend
MGMT
Arcade Fire (I am so addicted to Arcade Fire at the moment, I've been listening to them all winter)
Au Revoir Simone
CocoRosie
Broken Social Scene
Dirty Projectors
Coldplay
Radiohead
Beirut
The Mummers
Guillemots

The fact that I like Radiohead used to get me into a lot of arguments with Muse fans at school though, because of the whole Muse vs Radiohead debate. Bad times.

Can't you enjoy both?

While Radiohead is more consistently good and more innovative, Muse has still managed to pull out 2.5 good albums, so I certainly appreciate them.
