I don't agree with that. I'd say it's just not as immediate, and it also sounds quite different from what he's done in the past in terms of "balance". I just admire "Songs for Lulu" now as it sounds so personal and clever and sensitive. There's no sham in this one, just sometimes brutal honesty. Actually, I'm a big fan of everything he's done except this boring and artificial Judy Garland's project....
