The worst song on Have One On Me

I would easily place HOOM as one of the top ten albums that has been released since my birth (which occurred in 1987), so when I say "worst song", we are talking about a song that is still better than the best song most bands will produce in their entire careers. It is, of course, all relative.

Still, I believe that for everybody, there are songs of varying quality on this record. Especially given its length, some songs are going to please us more than others. For me, even the worst songs should still be included on the record, as every song is good and fits in perfectly. I would like to know if there is some kind of consensus on which is the worst song. Or your least favorite.

Anyway, I've shortened the choices to eight songs, to keep the poll less cluttered. I picked the bottom songs from the JNST (not to be confused with the JNTP or JNTV). They are in track-listing order.

Ha -- I think I would say Easy. I have issues with that song. I know other people love it. I don't want to choose other, so I'm gonna go with No Provenance.

I chose Esme because it's the one I skip the most. I always feel like it's a little out of place on the album, and I'm not wildly fond of the harp sound on the recorded version. I feel like the harp gets kind of lost in the background which is weird considering it's the only instrument. I do love the song, but I think it worked better in the live, pre-voice issues recordings.

I feel like voting here would be sacrilege. :P

Ribbon Bows for me. That, No Provenance and You and Me Bess are the only tracks on the album that I'm not too fussed about, but its my least favourite of the three. Although the reasons are different; Ribbon Bows and You and Me Bess I find a little slight and without any grander meaning or message, whereas I just have no idea what's going on in No Provenance.

I'm hurt for some reason, No Provenance is one of my favorites, I adore the drums and everything else in it.

I'm between Jackrabbits and Autumn. I feel like Jackrabbits is weaker/more dull but I would say Autumn, it's just the one that I always overlook, even now I can't remember what it sounds like. At least I know some of the words to Jackrabbits.

I would have to go with Kingfisher. I do enjoy listening to it sometimes, but it is definitely the one I skip the most. I don't really know it very well , save for a few lines.

Just like Ann, I went for No Provenance so as not to choose "other" ... but if it had been there, I'd have chosen You And Me, Bess.

Esme, only because her voiced changed so after her "condition", and i so lurved the haunting vocals in the original live versions

dwain-this is of course "picking the fly shit out of the pepper though"

This is so sad, No Provenance is great!

I'm a No Provenance fan too, but I'm not surprised to see it getting the most votes. I think one of the reasons a lot of people don't like it as much is that the lyrics seem kind of impenetrable. I've been thinking about them, though, and putting together my own interpretation. Maybe I'll post about it when I've thought about it a bit more.

This thread is blasphemous. The worst song on Have One On Me is You'll Think of Me by Keith Urban, because it's not by her and it's not on the album and it's the first song that came up when I kept pressing random article on Wikipedia (except a ska song that I actually liked when I listened to it).

Oh goodness, you and your hate of Good Intentions Paving Company :tsk: I love it! It's so upbeat and fun, and the lyrics are really good. My friend Veronica thought it was a joke the first time she heard it, though, so maybe she was coming from the same place as you at the time (though she's grown to like it a lot).

I really cannot pick a worst song on the album. There are maybe 3 or 4 songs that I'd lump together as "songs I like a little bit less than the rest," but I can't choose between them. I kind of agree with rainbowdash about Jackrabbits. I liked it a lot when all we had was that really poor recording, but I feel underwhelmed enough by the album version that I don't listen to it very often.

I don't know about "a joke", but it is a lot more light-hearted than the rest of her songs. But I don't think that's a bad thing, it's not like it's frivolous or anything.

It seems like You and Me, Bess is a description of a dream... and I want to know what movie she watched beforehand; it must have been dark. I love the songs where her voice pricks just like the harp, like in Baby Birch.

I kind of like No Provenance. What's your issue?

I think my vote might be on Does Not Suffice. It's kind of a bitter song. :|

I agree with you. I have no idea what Veronica meant by that- I suppose I should ask her! I think it was just a shock for her because it was the first of the HOOM songs she heard, and it is quite different from anything else Joanna had written before HOOM.

Does Not Suffice? Really? D%

I adore Kingfisher. It makes me cry because I understand it... I have no clue how you guys could have issues with Kingfisher or Easy, for that matter.

Hey, only one person took issue with Kingfisher! A lot of people 'round these parts think Kingfisher is one of the best songs on the album. It might be my favorite.
