Has anybody else noticed how often Joanna uses terms of endearment in her lyrics? It's especially apparent on Have One On Me, I think. For example, after a quick over the lyrics, I saw "Honey" nine times and "Darling" eleven times.
So I have always thought that "Soft As Chalk" was a surprisingly bitter sounding song, and I realized that one of the main reasons is that she uses those terms of endearment a LOT in that song, to the point where it's almost like self-parody. It makes lines like "Say honey did you belong to me?" (in which I always kind of picture her doing air quotes when she's singing "honey") sound really sarcastic. Anyway, I just think it's another sign of what a great lyricist she is.
