Not sure if this movie's come up before, has anyone seen it?

It was released to much controversy at the time, and heavily re-edited against Ophüls' wishes. Then later restored according to his original vision, and eventually re-released.. in Feb 2010!

Though some aspects of it are a bit dated, I think it's the most decadent film I've ever seen- the set and costume designs are full of lavish detail and colour, and it plays with nonlinearity and chronology in a really interesting way. The plot basically relays the life of Lola Montez through flashbacks over the course of a single performance, complete with whispering Jesuits and a Bavarian king.

Highly recommended if anyone's still interested in the world of HOOM etc. :)

Thanks for this great suggestion.
It explained quite a lot of things in HOOM for me. And I'm sure that Joanna has definitely seen it.
