It used to be really good but this new season is really disappointing I think. The writing has gone majorly downhill and nothing really happens in the episodes, there's just about 20 dislocated scenes of different characters having minor plot advancement and then a dramatic cliffhanger at the end of each episode to make you think you've actually watched something interesting. Such a shame, the first season showed such promise but now it's got too boring, too fast. It never quite had the acting or writing to rank among the best TV shows in my opinion (The Wire, The Sopranos, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Six Feet Under, Battlestar Galactica, West Wing etc.) but I didn't expect it to deteriorate so quickly.

completely disagree. Having read Game of Thrones in 1997 and rest of ASOIAF on their release dates- I consider myself a hardcore GRRM fan.

Felt they only missed the mark a couple times. For what they did in boiling down"Clash of Kings" into 10 episodes and less than 10 hours they pulled off a Herculean task. Really not fair to compare writing in TV series you mention, one based as close as possible to a beloved bestselling series and all the rest are serialized, mwritten for TV teledramas, make up the next plot and subplot IF the show gets renewed. Nothing like what the writers face in GoT.

Also Episode 9 this season - The Battle of Blackwater Bay was one of - if not the best written and produced episodes yet.

"to make you think you've actually watched something interesting." - I would say that about the entire Mad Men show, major plot and every subplot they piss away. To each his own....

I agree with Wanbli, although the TV series doesn't follow the books in every detail, the writers have done a pretty amazing job of keeping the overall storyline in place considering the time available. I loved the books, and I feel the same about the TV series.

I'm a consumer judging whether it's good TV or not. Where it has come from doesn't really come into it so much for me. Maybe it's just better for fanboys than casual viewers. I think it loses an awful lot by never having the core characters interact with each other that much, it makes the whole show feel a little incoherent to me. And I guess the acting and writing is a little more trashy than I'd have wanted. The most frustrating thing for me is this idea that it's just always building to something without any real payoff, it makes for very unsatisfying viewing.

Anyway, we clearly disagree, I wouldn't come and write just to shit all over the show, I just feel that it had a lot of promise and it has been disappointing.

Wait a second... did Weirdelves say "all the best shows ... Battlestar Galactica" up there!

Brilliant!

We used to watch that as a family at teatime, it was so [can I steal one of Milki's words here?] fuckingly bad that it was unmissable, earning it the official designation of "drivel" in our household, which was a rare compliment. Drivelstar Galactica.
