So maybe some of you follow the Joanna tag on tumblr and this was recently posted:

it was taken from Annabel Mehrans instagram and the caption reads "Joanna stars in my dreams of California love"

And I was SO stoked to see the print of this dress strongly resembled the print of her vintage Ossie Clark pastel-y dress that she's worn (stoked because I'm sooo in love with that dress...and a lot of vintage Ossie Clark that I've seen)
So...I did research and came up with this to confirm that it is a vintage Ossie Clark, print by Celia Birtwell. I couldn't find this exact dress but I did find a tunic/skirt set with the same pattern..

I don't know if any of you would be able to find a pic of the actual dress that Joannas wearing BUT, if you do...please post! I'm dying to see what the front of it looks like

curious, does anyone know which Rodarte piece was gifted to Joanna? I've read in a few interviews that she's said she's never bought or been able to afford one of their pieces but they gifted her a dress for hosting a Rodarte party. Not sure if anyone on here knew which one she actually owns and I was just curious. We've seen her in a lot of Rodarte

I speculated in the past that the dress she wore when she hosted their fashion week party was given to her, mainly because I think you can see it on the cover of HOOM (otherwise I'd assume she just borrowed it for that night). I'm not positive about that though.

I remember reading an interview where she said they had made a dress for her but never figured out which dress she was referring to (could be the red one she wore on Jimmy Fallon; I believe she wore that one to a Rodarte show and it's kind of standard (though not required) to wear something by the designer when you're sitting front row at their show).

I'm fairly positive that she owns this dress. She has a lot more money now than she did in the past so I don't think that it's true anymore that she can't afford their clothes. Their dresses generally run in the $2,000-$3,000 range which is consistent with other pieces she owns by other designers.

oooh good observation, i never looked at the hoom album cover so closely that i noticed any of the pieces of clothing but I can definitely see that hot pink christopher kane dress and I think I see (what might be) the light blue Rodarte dress you mentioned.

I know the article that I had read was writtepn awhile back so I'd imagine she probably owns a few of their pieces now, just considering I've seen her photographed in Rodarte a lot..especially the last dress you linked.


Just curious, Claire...what are some of your favorite pieces you've seen her in?

A lot of her stagewear for the Ys and Have One On Me tours was great. I really don't like Alexander Wang or Stella McCartney but I weirdly like the AW and SM dresses she's worn on stage. Every Christopher Kane dress she's worn is a favorite pretty much but especially the red nebula dress. In the last few years my favorites were the Dolce & Gabbana tomato dress and the Prada coat dress, though on the whole I haven't liked a lot of what she's been wearing (hated her Golden Globes dress especially). Whenever she releases her next album (please lord let it be soon) I'm very interested to see what direction she goes with her stage dresses since we've only really seen her on red carpets for a long time.

The one Jeannie posted is a little more elusive. My first instinct on looking at it was that it's Valentino, but I can't find a match. I came across a couple of similar Valentino looks just to give you an idea:

At first I thought she had lost her damn mind, putting those pieces together. It's comforting to know that Rodarte is just churning out some pretty ugly stuff lately. She's almost pulling it off though!

This is my first post.... and I wanted to put a photo of Joanna in a lovely Zac Posen dress! Full length dress with a cape. She wore it at the SAG awards. But unfortunately I don't know how to post pictures... I hope someone will solve my problem!
P.S. Thanks for this forum! I've been a (late-comer) fan of Joanna Newsom since my 2011. And as she's not done much musically the last few years this forum has helped me get up to date on everything. And I'm really happy that there is other fans like myself

I've been meaning to post about that dress! It's great! Love Joanna in a cape. Usually I don't like Zac Posen but this one is really nice.



I haven't found an exact match but it has the same print as this one from his Pre-Fall 2015 collection (which also has some cape dresses in other colors/fabrics):

Joanna went to the SNL 40th anniversary wearing a black, strapless, carnation print dress. I think it's Dolce and Gabana but I've not been able to find the exact dress; many like it on different shopping websites! Alas my device won't allow me to use the photo service sites!
