- it's a quote from "Sprout And The Bean" from her first album, "Milk-Eyed Mender":Tadpoles
- I'm not quite sure where AgesilausLacis is coming from with this one. Apart from perhaps youngsters who pay to be members of a Fan Club, no one is under any obligation or pressure to buy - or even like - any particular work by any particular artist. I am sure I speak for the majority here, when I say that if I hear something I like, then I will buy and enjoy it. If I hear something I don't like ... I won't bother. Joanna Newsom happens to have released 3 exceptional albums that I enjoy listening to. If and when her fourth one comes along, I won't be 'expected to swallow' it: if I like it, I'll listen, and if I don't, I won't. If 'being a fan' means anything, then (in my terms, at least) it means enjoying what has been released previously, and perhaps having a reasonable expectation that the same artist's next work will be similarly pleasing.expected to swallow whatever's the latest trash that Ms. Newsom has released

At long last, Earth has someone who can arbitrate objectively in matters of personal taste and priority: now that AgesilausLacis is offering his judgments freely and unbidden, never again will we have to ask, "But is it art?"
The world has struggled for thousands of years with the question of artistic merit, and that struggle is finally over. I think we should all feel blessed that it's happened here, among us, and in gratitude to AgesilausLacis, and in recognition of his proven superiority, bring our preferences exactly into line with his.
However, Mr. Lacis, I can't help but feel that your talents - as much as we all appreciate them - are wasted here. There are wars being fought in the world, sir; and it strikes me that with your acutely discerning faculties, you're ideally suited to telling everyone which side is in the right so the other can surrender without bloodshed - and all with a few smug, sarcastic comments! How we have laboured for peace when we had only to look to the pompous.
Or why, indeed, aren't you presenting a proposal to the UN that, due to your transcendent acumen and talent for appraisal, world leaders should be selected by you, rather than democratically elected?
There are many ways you could put your powers to better use; these suggestions highlight but a few possibilities.

AgesilausLacis wrote:If anyone on here is interested in listening to serious harpistry, please download some pieces by Carlos Salzedo or other similar composers.
AgesilausLacis wrote:Salzedo's skill and compositional ability were unquestioned; only his "method" was controversial.
And I acknowledge Joanna's abilities on the harp, even though she could hardly keep pace with the leading concert harpists around the world. As for her Cabbage Patch Kid voice (and face), this is significantly harder to defend. Her songwriting abilities are quite weak, too...all designed to create this feeling of homespun warmth and wisdom, which is clearly affected and anachronistic.
"Naïve is what is or seems to be natural, individual, or classical to the point of irony, or else to the point of continuously fluctuating between self-creation and self-destruction. If it's simply instinctive, then it's childlike, childish, or silly; if it's merely intentional, then it gives rise to affectation."
