Where are all the US live recordings?

Editing this because I don't think I was very clear in what I wrote before, leading to confusion

This may be an unanswerable question but it seems curious we've had no complete high quality audio recordings from the most recent 2010 US tour uploaded onto the Dime website, and I'm wondering why. We had lots from the UK tour. I find it hard to believe that no one taped the US gigs.

Is it that US fans are more scared of being caught by the Internet police than the Brits? Or do they not like sharing? (joke). Or are people preferring to video a few songs for YouTube, rather than sit in silence capturing an entire audio recording of the gig?

Of course it's everyone's right to keep their recordings to themselves and I'm hugely grateful for the ones I do have. It just seems we have a lot of complete US audio recordings from the earlier years and very little recently.

My theory is that this South, SE particular tour (AZ, TX, LA, FL, NC) with the exception of Carnegie were venues/towns she hasn't played and a smaller concentrated fan base. The 2 AZ shows I was at were less than 50% full each- so lot less of a chance of a taper being present.

There's quite a few very complete, very good recordings from when she was touring with Ys, but not from any of the big shows. Bottletree's a nice one, if it's still kicking around.

That might be the biggest Ys tour gig that's recorded, if I'm not mistaken. The very first live performance of Baby Birch, from London, was recorded, too. I was there! :D

I would kill for a Los Angeles boot. I would record if I had the right equipment.

I recorded three videos at the Oakland show back in August

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPo44Zd003Q Picture Cover,Encore
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uynSyCmy_8M '81, Joannas Opening
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVrhrFPZPXI Tiger Mountain Peasant Song, Robin's Last Song

I had planned on recording more before I actually got to the conert but they were both so absolutely amazing I didn't want to miss a thing and try to get a good view for the camera (that's why they're a little shaky :)

ps. I was a little afraid of being caught. Lots of workers walking around. The show was packed! That reminds me, Robin started with his open at exactly 8pm. He was so shy and adorable and his voice - AMAZING. He played about 4 or 5 songs. Something I noticed was that not a lot of people were there to watch him perform, which is a shame. There was barely any people in the section I was sitting in but when Joanna came on it was full. I wish Joanna fans would've come to listen to him

A relatively high-quality divx recording has been floating around for a few years now, and apparently the video was authorized and legit. Last I checked it was up for direct-download on some website, but even if not it's still torrentable in various places (and should be considered legal).

It isn't and shouldn't be. Not that I didn't download it too of course but this is just a well shot audience video by a fan.

If you are talking about the 2006 recording, it may not have been authorized by Joanna, but it's distribution was authorized by the person who filmed it, with a condition that the film's lineage be included. That authorization can be found in the "I have a full show when she played in the 1st Unitarian" thread of the old forum.

Sure, but that's a far cry from something being legal and legit. I'm not saying don't download it or that the person shouldn't distribute it, I'm very glad they did. I just wouldn't want anyone thinking they'd missed out on an official live Joanna video, somehow - which that comment might have made it seem. It's definitely not legal if it doesn't have the permission of the copyright holder of those songs.

OK, that means that we can legally download exactly...drum roll please...no videos! I don't know of any videos that Joanna has authorized to be distributed for free. So, everyone delete all of those videos you downloaded, and stop watching those that are posted on youtube and other video-sharing websites...they're unauthorized. Stop cheating Joanna, now! Do you want to go back and read what I wrote again? Didn't say any of that so I'm not sure who you're ranting at or why? I'm a bootleg fiend; love 'em all. I just pointed out that it was misleading to call it legit or legal, as that might make people think Joanna had released an official video that they'd somehow missed out on. Pick a fight with someone else.
