That Perennial Problem

I'm not attending any of the upcoming Kate Bush shows, but her recent statement ahead of the concerts struck a chord:

We have purposefully chosen an intimate theatre setting rather than a large venue or stadium. It would mean a great deal to me if you would please refrain from taking photos or filming during the shows. I very much want to have contact with you as an audience, not with iphones, ipads or cameras. I know it's a lot to ask but it would allow us to all share in the experience together.

Struck a chord because my last 2 or 3 JN concerts have found me seated or standing next to 'semi-pro'/'serious- amateur' photographers armed with digital SLRs clicking away for the entirety of the show. And why do digital SLRs still need to click? Even more distressing than these technotwats was the idiot in Belgium with his archaic FILM SLR, gifting my right ear with not only a shutter click but also with its inevitable and excruciating corollary: the mechanical wind-on. For the ENTIRE show. And yes if I was looking at you like I wanted to kill you, it was because I wanted to kill you. The 'happy snappers' are bad enough but tend to ruin only half the songs before getting bored with their point(less) n shoot efforts, but the cnuts with 'gear' and 'talent' just never known when to put the fucking thing down and actually open up their hearts and souls. What the fuck do these guys (and in my experience it has just been guys) 'do' with all these shots? Don't you understand how privileged you are to be able to attend a concert by this most outrageously gifted of musicians?

It's been a long wait, but deep down we know the time is drawing near...and deep down I just know some cnut with a camera is gonna shit all over it.

I wonder what is the relevance of your message. you are pissed off because of the digital cameras that disturbed you. we are all disturb by this kind of thing and so what ???

I think the message of KB could be a good thing if she kept it only for her audience, not this way through the social medias. it causes an amount of overreactions and personnally I don't like this heavy atmosphere before attending her show.

My reaction when I read that was, 'good luck with that Kate.'
I don't take many pictures but I do take videos.
Part of me really enjoys living in the moment and enjoying each song without a camera.
But the other part of me really enjoys watching the couple of songs I've filmed from a show many times afterward, and other people, thousands of people, enjoy them on youtube.
I am so thankful for some of the concert footage from Joanna shows. And others of my favorite musicians.
What would I do without those fantastic live versions of Esme and Baby Birch?
But a clicking camera? Sounds annoying.

yeah it is a pain, and we all hate it, even those of us that do it sometimes...then i think of the insane amount of grateful dead shows we have in one format or another, and Jerry's death, that came along way too soon, and i am happy that someone was recording all that stuff, or Bob Marley's girlfriend recording the song he did for her...there is no way we would have this stuff if someone were not recording at some point...listen Kate and Joanna went down to the crossroads and did the deal with the devil, they decided to be public musicians, and doing so puts them in this place they are so uncomfortable being in...but they have made nice livings off of it too...yes they deserve privacy...no they can't demand it...some of us will film and 30 years from now when someone watches it, they will know the reason why
