Two groups resulted in ties at the top, and, in one case, the rule that preference would go to the song which had previously enjoyed the best average position in JNST1&2 could not be applied, as Shame (which tied with Never Come Home in Group 1) had not figured in the earlier competitions. There was to be space for two "best runners-up", so I considered that the fairest thing to do would be to include all of the tied songs. Both Shame and Never Come Home will carry an asterisk against their names, meaning that they cannot progress as a "best runner-up" again at any stage in JNST3.

As promised, 24 groups of three songs, for which I ask you to choose your first and second favourite in each group. The same points will apply as in the last round (first choice 6, second choice 3, third choice 1), with tied positions sharing available points. (rather easier to decide most of them than the previous round!)
Hi Alex You are quite right - and apologies for the confusion which is entirely my fault: the rules are indeed contradictory. I think the best solution - since Mywaywardfriend, Claire, and Ann, have already cast their votes seemingly guided by the first part ("I ask you to choose your first and second favourite in each group") will be for me to assume that they would have named the missing song in 3rd place. If two songs are missing, I'll assume they meant them to be placed joint 2nd in that group. If they meant something else, and would be kind enough to let me know I will be happy to amend the points allocations, with my apologies once more. To state all the possibilities explicitly - "1st A, 2nd B" or "1st A, 2nd B, 3rd C" => A 6 points, B 3 points, C 1 point "1st A" or "1st A, =2nd B & C" => A 6 points; B 2 points, C 2 points "=1st A & B" or "=1st A & B, 3rd C" => A 4½ points, B 4½ points, C 1 point
In the case of my own votes, I was following the second instruction, and specifically the third bit, which said "If there is any song you don't want to receive the points for its position, simply omit it from your vote", so my votes will be applied as follows: - In cases where I mention all three songs, treatment is the same as (the second option in) each of the three cases above, ie: "1st A, 2nd B, 3rd C" => A 6 points, B 3 points, C 1 point "1st A, =2nd B & C" => A 6 points; B 2 points, C 2 points "=1st A & B, 3rd C" => A 4½ points, B 4½ points, C 1 point But where don't mention all three songs, the intention is to allocate points as follows: "1st A, 2nd B" => A 6 points, B 3 points, C0 points "1st A" => A 6 points; B0 points, C0 points "=1st A & B" => A 4½ points, B 4½ points, C0 point
So for future voters, please could you amend the instruction "I ask you to choose your first and second favourite in each group..." and read it as "Please could you indicate your first, second, and third preferences among the three songs in each group, to which will be allocated 6 points, 3 points, and 1 point respectively (sharing any points for songs you place in tied positions), and leaving out any song(s) to which you do not want to award any points.
Ah, okay, I was confused. I'm adding a third vote to two of them. I'll edit my post. For the rest with no third vote, I'm still going with no vote cast.

I figured voting for first and third would be allowed from the way you described the allocation of points based on ranking and relative ranking - if I got that wrong, just consider the number 3s to be number 2s where there's no number 2 but there is a number 3!
I just did that where I thought that 2 was too high a position to give a song considering what 1 was and I wasn't voting for all three. It's like I sometimes say when ranking music in general - Joanna Newsom and Streetlight Manifesto are drawn first place, then there's about eighty empty rankings before any other music enters the chart.
Please ignore my comments in the posting above - now I look at your votes I see that you've already applied Jordan's Rule, so that's all good and there's no need for you to do anything!
Unfortunately MM isn't allowing me to edit completed posts at the moment, so I am having to make this a separate one.
