New Orleans 11/13 Roll Call

Hello everyone, I've been around these parts for years, used to have the handle 'corcovado'.

I'll be at the Tipitina's show solo. Is anyone else from the forum attending? It'd be nice to have someone to share the excitement with!

not going, but this should be a great show

If you could let us know what Ryan Francesconi plays as the opener that would be great :)

What's the reason you aren't going?

Ryan played three Fahey-esque raga pieces, then was joined by the violinist on tour to perform some Bulgarian folk standards. The set seemed rather short.

Joanna played (was rather drunk and still am, merging order):
Bridges and Balloons
Have One on Me
Easy
Go Long
Soft as Chalk
Cosmia
Inflammatory Writ
Emily
Good Intentions Paving Company

Encore:
Peach Plum Pear

Second Encore:
Colleen

Beautiful show, as always. Unfortunately the sound guys at TIpitina's had no earthly idea how to mic Joanna or any of the sound, really, for the show. Thankfully the crowd was extremely quiet and respectful. Perhaps even the sound problems lent themselves to a more intimate show where everyone was hushed just to hear those slight reverberations of the harp.

Very good observation, jeannie--and worded exquisitely. My fantasy is that the crowd refuses to let the show continue, stops the show, the band-members take it into their own hands to adjust the entire sound-system, make a hasty sound check and begin again. The crowd passes a basket to collect payment for the staff's overtime to add insult to their injury--their embarrassment of having the crowd and artist do their jobs for them.

I'm a silly little dreamer...Image

I've heard worse, but it's still bad quality. If she slits her own throat, it will be on your shoulders, W.

Don't be melodramatic. I'm sure by now she doesn't care; she cared when she was far less secure about her voice. By now, I'm sure, she's perfectly happy with the way she sounds without careful studio attention. If not, we're utterly failing in convincing her at every live gig she's ever played that we find every sound produced by her glottis utterly pleasurable.

Fantastic piece Joe :notworthy:
Should stick around here a bit more :)

love the ending!

"If you’re a fan of Joanna Newsom and you missed her performance last weekend, you really should drop out of school, sell all of your plasma, and plan to see her on her U.K. tour next year with Alasdair Roberts"

going to link it in the Found on the Net thread.
