What an arrogant and opinionated perspective. You seem to think that you are the only one who sees things clearly and anyone who enjoys Milk Eyed Mender is an idiot. You seem to be a pretty base and uncouth person for a critic. Her voice is technically untrained but she uses it to express emotions and tell stories. Gee, I think that is a part of what an artist does, yes? I also believe she admits to being untrained vocally. I find her style unique and rather charming. I wasn't aware of her as a performer until recently and am really grateful that I saw that LG commercial because I don't think I'd have been made aware of her otherwise.

The "critic" (/troll) wont go very far to be honest if that's his method of reviewing an album. It has to be the first review where I've actually witnessed the reviewer condescend the consumer of the product. It's written in such a way to rile the fans up and that's exactly why he's posted it in a dedicated forum (to which he has no prior connection).

He also has it wrong, we don't need to defend Joanna's music especially to such a "critic". All music has its detractors and some like it to be known. Mainly this is to invoke some sort of reaction from them or the fans. These detractors are well above their station with some sort of superiority complex and/or attention deficit (so don't feed the trolls thanks).

If he's happy with his manufactured, meaning-less, disposible, over-compressed and badly produced "mainstream" pop music then let him go back - to each his own and all that.

I'm just saying, a critic isn't going to be very much liked or taken seriously when he tries to invoke reactions from the fanbase by looking down on them for their taste and appreciation for music.

/me slots in MEM and enjoys.

All I said on the previous page is that obviously shitty, blatantly "manufactured" pop music is more honest than what Joanna Newsom was trying to do on this record. The Milk-Eyed Mender is no less manufactured; the only difference is that it's targeting an audience that fancies itself to be above the influence of mindless mainstream trash. This is part of the reason for the success of indie music in general over the last ten years, facilitated by new media like the internet. Niche markets.

As for myself, if I want to listen to harp music I'll listen to Carlos Salzedo or Marcel Grandjany. Either one of those composers would shit all over Newsom when it comes to serious harpistry. She's not even fit to tune one of their concert harps. Especially Salzedo -- I mean, the man collaborated with Nijinsky, for fuck's sake.

At one point I find myself in agreement with you about something you said, and then...
