It's nice to come home from a concert feeling that the mind, the heart, and the soul have all been exceptionally well fed. Joanna Newsom and her band can always be relied on to deliver just such a concert!
She mostly played stuff from the new album, but also a number of songs from the first album and one song from the 2nd album. It was interesting to see how differently she writes the vocal lines for her, now, much more flexible voice than she did back in the early days of her scratchy naive voice.
I also thought it was interesting to see how these new songs, which in some cases seem a bit long to me on the album itself, worked so well in a live setting. They open up and bloom like flowers in the way of small theater pieces. The applause after every single song was more like the applause bands usually get at the end of a concert.
